Sandev Purewal and Rie Ishizuka represented three elite professionals, employed in a highly specialized field within the financial sector in Toronto, who had been notified that their entire department was to be closed within six months. The severance package being offered by the employer was primarily based on a few months of working notice. We were retained to secure a fair and reasonable severance package and appropriate compensation. Shortly thereafter, our intensive efforts on behalf of our clients led the employer to offer every member of the department a fair and equitable severance package which, in most cases, included several-fold increases in their compensation package.
Donald Fiske, C.S. and Sandev Purewal were counsel to a charitable foundation which runs a large long-term care facility in Toronto. We were retained to advise on a complicated multi-party construction litigation case which had effectively become deadlocked. We were successful in being able to guide our client through the complexities of the legal process and resolve the litigation on terms which were very favourable to our client.
Donald Fiske, C.S. and Sandev Purewal were retained to launch a tax appeal for a client whose business had been charged by the Canada Revenue Agency with failure to make proper GST remittances years earlier. As several years had passed since the original judgment was registered against our client's corporation, the sum owing had increased to $6.3 million, as result of penalties and interest. Mr. Fiske and Mr. Purewal successfully brought a motion before the Tax Court of Canada to set aside the judgment against our client.
